Petrified Forest is best known for its Triassic fossils. It’s like having two parks in one, an ecosystem over 200 million years old with plans and animals now represented in the surreal landscape of the Painted Desert.

Things to Do and Explore
A scenic drive through the Petrified Forest or Painted Desert is a visitor favorite! The Petrified Forest drive will take you about an hour. Similarly, the Painted Desert drive is just under 30 miles and is perfect as a midmorning or afternoon excursion. The Blue Mesa Road is also a beautiful hike with many different landings and viewpoints. Take your time and enjoy a relaxed pace!
