2026 Forest River R-POD 185 Walk-Around

Starting outside in Millcreek

The 2026 Forest River R-POD 185 sits at 23 feet 1 inch of overall length, 8 feet wide and 10 feet 4 inches tall, riding on a single axle. That matters before you ever open the door. Plenty of Forest Service campgrounds in American Fork Canyon and along the Mirror Lake Highway cap you around 25 feet, and this one fits those spots without a spotter and a prayer. It also means you can back it down a normal Salt Lake driveway between the fence and the neighbor's garbage cans.

The sidewalls are built with AZDEL composite panels, which is polypropylene and fiberglass instead of the wood substrate a lot of trailers still use. It won't soak up water and rot if a seal ever gets tired, it's lighter, and it insulates better. In a state where the trailer bakes in a driveway in July and then sits at 20 degrees in a Uinta campground in September, that panel does real work in both directions.

On the tongue you've got 430 pounds of hitch weight, and the trailer comes in at 4,089 pounds dry with a 5,000 pound GVWR. Do the math and you have 911 pounds of cargo capacity, which is water, food, chairs and firewood, not a theoretical number. For a lightweight travel trailer this is the sweet spot: most half-ton trucks tow it without thinking, and a properly rated midsize SUV with a factory tow package is often in range too. Check the door-jamb sticker on your vehicle before you sign anything, and we'll check it with you. A Tire Pressure Monitoring System is standard, which earns its keep on the long pull up Parley's and the long brake-heavy run back down.

Pass-through storage up front swallows the leveling blocks, the hoses and the camp chairs so they're not riding inside on the dinette. Out back there's a rear accessory hitch for a cargo carrier or a bike rack, so the mountain bikes don't have to live in the truck bed with everything else.

The 14-foot awning gives you real shade over the outside kitchen, and that outdoor kitchen is the feature families use more than they expect. Burgers cooked outside means no grease smell in a small travel trailer and no reason to heat up the interior on an August evening at Willard Bay. There are USB-C ports outside as well as inside, so phones charge where you're actually sitting.

Through the door on the 2026 Forest River R-POD 185

Step in at night and the motion lighting comes on, inside and out, which is a small thing until you've fumbled for a switch with an armload of groceries. The single slide-out opens up the living space so two people can pass each other without a shuffle, and the dinette gives you a place to eat, work and spread out a map. Sleeping capacity is three, with a queen bed plus the dinette. Premium window treatments and the acrylic front window with its night shade and bug shield let you leave the glass open for the breeze and still black things out when the sun comes over the ridge at 6 a.m.

A central vacuum system is built in, which sounds like a luxury until you've camped at Sand Hollow and tracked red sand into a carpeted trailer twice a day.

The galley runs a two-burner cooktop and a convection microwave, so you can bake and brown, not only reheat. The refrigerator is large, and that's what keeps you from driving into town mid-trip.

Hot water comes from an on-demand tankless water heater. No six-gallon tank to run dry, no waiting 20 minutes between showers, and it means the second person in the standard shower enclosure gets the same water the first one did. The bath has a 4-speed high-powered fan, which pulls steam and smells out fast in a space this size.

The queen bed gets its own space, and there's closet storage so clothes hang instead of living in a duffel on the floor. A rear entertainment setup rounds out the interior for the nights when it's raining sideways and nobody wants to sit outside.
Power, water and cold Utah nights

A large roof-mounted solar panel with a 30-amp controller comes standard, and the trailer is prepped for an inverter. That's what makes dry camping on BLM ground outside Moab or up Skyline Drive workable without listening to a generator. Fresh water is 30 gallons, with 30 gallons each of grey and black, so your tanks fill at about the same rate and nothing surprises you. Two people who are careful with the tankless water heater get a long weekend out of 30 gallons. A family of three should plan on a jug in the truck.
For temperature, there's 15,000 BTU of air conditioning, which is the difference between miserable and fine during a St. George afternoon. For the other end of the year, the underbelly is enclosed and forced-heated, so the tanks and lines stay protected when the overnight low in the Uintas drops below freezing in late September. That's the stretch of the season most people in Utah actually want and most trailers are not set up for.
If you want to add to it, the Camp-Ready Package and the Hood River Edition are both available on this Forest River travel trailer, and we can walk through what each one includes.
This is one of the more practical new travel trailer options we keep on the lot in terms of towing it with a vehicle you probably already own, and it's a strong candidate if you've been comparing travel trailers for sale in Utah on weight alone.
Frequently asked questions
What truck do I need to tow it?
With 4,089 pounds dry, a 5,000 pound GVWR and 430 pounds on the ball, most half-ton pickups handle it comfortably, and a midsize SUV with an adequate factory tow rating can work. Bring your vehicle in and we'll read the door sticker with you before you commit.
How many people does it sleep?
Three, using the queen bed and the dinette. It's sized for a couple, a couple plus a kid, or one person with a lot of gear.
Can I dry camp in it?
Yes. The standard roof solar panel with a 30-amp controller and the inverter prep cover your electrical side, and you're working with 30 gallons of fresh water against 30 gallons each of grey and black.
Will it fit in smaller mountain campgrounds?
At 23 feet 1 inch long and 10 feet 4 inches tall, it fits the sites that turn away bigger rigs, including a lot of the shorter-length spots in Utah's canyon campgrounds.
Does it handle cold weather?
The underbelly is enclosed and heated with forced air, which protects the tanks and plumbing on the freezing nights you'll hit in the Uintas and on the Boulder Mountain in the shoulder seasons.
