2027 Winnebago Access 16RB Buyer's Guide

2027 Winnebago Access 16RB Buyer's Guide

What can tow a 2027 Winnebago Access 16RB?

Access 16RB — exterior side
Exterior side

This is the question that decides everything else, so start at the hitch. The 2027 Winnebago Access 16RB carries a 3,770 lb dry weight, a 5,100 lb GVWR and a 410 lb hitch weight, which puts it in range for a lot of half-ton trucks and the stronger midsize SUVs. Check your own vehicle's tow rating and tongue weight limit against those numbers before you buy, not after. It rides on a single Dexter EZ Lube axle, measures 21 ft 2 in long, 8 ft wide and 10 ft 6 in tall, and a spare tire is standard. There's also a 2" receiver hitch, so a bike rack or cargo carrier is on the table.

Underneath all of it is Winnebago's NXG huck bolted frame, with Tuff Coat exterior metal and a one-piece TPO roof membrane over the top. That matters more on a lightweight travel trailer than people expect, because light construction is where corners usually get cut.

Where does everyone sleep?

Access 16RB — bedroom
Bedroom

Winnebago rates this floorplan to sleep four. The bed in the 16RB is 66 by 74 inches, a little wider and a little shorter than a standard queen, which is how the designers kept the length down to 21 ft without shrinking the shoulder room. Blackout roll shades and tinted windows throughout mean a 6 a.m. sunrise in the desert doesn't end your sleep for you, and USB charge ports keep phones off the floor. The interior is the Serenity decor, which is light and warm rather than dark.

Good fit if you're towing with a half-ton or a capable SUV and you want a new travel trailer that sleeps four without stretching past 21 feet.

Look at something else if you need a slide-out for extra floor space, because this floorplan doesn't have one.

Can two people actually cook in here?

Refrigerator

The kitchen is built around a 10 cu. ft. 12V refrigerator, which is a serious amount of cold storage for a trailer this size and runs off the battery instead of propane. Next to it you get a recessed two-burner cooktop with a ducted range hood above it, a microwave, and a large undermount stainless steel sink.

The cabinetry is the part you notice on the second walk-through. Soft-close drawers, magnetic drawer and door catches so nothing pops open on a washboard road, and a built-in waste bin instead of a grocery sack hanging off a knob. Propane comes from a 20 lb tank, and there's a campside LP quick connect so an outdoor grill or fire pit runs off the trailer supply.

Where does everyone sit in the evening?

Living dinette

The dinette is the living room. It's where you'll eat, play cards and spread out a map, and the LED lighting throughout keeps the draw low when you're running on battery. TV prep and a TV antenna are standard, and a smart TV is available if you want one fitted. Winnebago's all-in-one control panel puts tank levels, lighting and the rest in one place instead of three switch panels in three different cabinets.

What's the bathroom like in a trailer this short?

Shower

Better than you'd guess. The shower measures 30 by 36 inches with a retractable shower door, so it folds away rather than taking up floor space all day. A 14 by 22 inch skylight sits over it, which adds standing height and daylight at the same time. The toilet is a foot flush.

Where does the gear go?

Access 16RB — pass through storage
Pass through storage

Cargo capacity is 1,330 lbs, the difference between the dry weight and the 5,100 lb GVWR. That's water, food, gear, chairs and everything else, and 49 gallons of fresh water alone accounts for a good chunk of it, so load with the scale in mind. Outside there's a pass-through storage compartment for the bulky items you don't want in the cabin, plus exterior ladder prep if you want roof access added.

Access 16RB — closet storage
Closet storage

Inside, the closet handles hanging clothes, and there's designed storage under the bed for the things you only need once a trip.

How long can we camp without hookups?

Fresh water is 49 gallons, with 40 gallons of grey and 40 gallons of black. Power comes from a 200-watt solar panel with a 30-amp charge control monitor, standard, plus roof mount solar prep if you want to add capacity later. Shore power is 30-amp service. The 12V refrigerator and LED lighting are the two biggest reasons a small travel trailer like this can sit off-grid for a weekend without a generator, and your real limit is usually the grey tank, not the battery.

How does it handle cold nights?

An 18,000 BTU furnace is a lot of heat for 21 feet of trailer, and it warms up fast. The holding tanks are enclosed and heated, so a cold snap in the Uintas doesn't end the trip. Radiant foil insulation runs beneath the floor and in the roof, which also helps in August. For cooling, there's a direct roof A/C.

How quick is setup at the site?

Access 16RB — tongue jack
Tongue jack

A powered tongue jack does the leveling work, and powered stabilization jacks take the bounce out once you're parked.

The awning is a power awning with LED lighting underneath it, so your outdoor space happens with a switch. LED exterior lights and a solid entrance step round out the arrival routine, and rearview camera prep is there if you want a camera wired for towing.

Out of the Winnebago travel trailer lineup, this is one of the easier ones to live with as a couple, and it's one of the lighter travel trailers for sale in Spanish Fork, Utah, that still gives you a full bathroom and a 10 cu. ft. fridge.
