Enjoy your camping trips in your new or used RV like never before! How? By being the best camper possible! Here are a few RV tips for being a responsible, courteous traveler while enjoying everything the great outdoors has to offer.
Follow the “Leave No Trace” Principles
The “Leave No Trace” principles basically rely on human courtesy and decency to leave all areas you enjoy better than you find them. This goes for hiking trails, campsites, and all aspects of state and national parks. It means disposing of your garbage/tank dumps responsibly and in designated areas, not burning your trash, and preventing damage to fragile habitats. All this can reduce your environmental impact and leave the area ready for more people to continue enjoying – and safe for critters to continue living there. Treat the great outdoors the way you would want guests to treat your living room. If it doesn’t belong there, don’t leave it there!
Abide By Campground Policies
Policies, rules, and fences are there to be respected, and the rules apply to you as much as they apply to anyone else. If there are designated trails and picnic areas, respect those boundaries. If there are pet ordinances (such as noise and pet waste removal) at your campground, abide by them. Same for lights out/quiet time hours, even if you don’t have pets. Respecting the boundaries and policies in place help make you the camper everyone appreciates.
Being Safe is Cool
Camping can be lots of fun, and it may bring with it new skills to learn to develop – like using a hatchet or starting a campfire. For the love of not turning your camping trip into an ER trip, practice ultimate safety when dealing with sharp or unwieldy tools, and only use safe fire starting practices (never use flammable liquids to start a campfire!). Also, only use permitted firewood by the campground. Firewood brought in from other locations can bring parasites and other pests that end up harming local ecosystems. Only burn what you’re allowed to burn.
Screens Down
This is a fantastic time to connect with your family, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy total rejuvenation. We suggest putting some screen time limits on phone usage. After all, you’re camping for a reason, right? Disconnecting from your devices as much as you can will reap loads of rewards as you begin to look up and enjoy the natural world around you.
